cars I Have known: C313 WKV Austin Maestro 1.3

This was the car that replaced our Opel Kadett and we know its history from new. It belonged to the late father of my dad's friend - Roger, who inherited it and used it as a second car. When Roger decided to move to Australia with his family we were offered it.

It had a low mileage when we got it, although we put many tens of thousands more on it over the years. This is the first car I drove after passing my test, and predictably enough, I crashed it on my first unsupervised outing. Whoops. I've still got part of the smashed numberplate that I carry as a lucky charm (of sorts).

My dad managed to blow the engine on the way back from France but we made it home despite leaving a trail of blue smoke in our wake. Luckily, my cousin Jean was getting rid of her Maestro which was very rusty but had a reasonable engine (When we got C313WKV she bought our Opel Kadett NRW678W). Scott changed the engines over and we continued to use it for a few more years - but it was never the same car after this point and ran like a bag of nails.

When we eventually part exchanged it we thought it would be scrapped. However, we spotted around Coventry from time to time, so it lived on for a while at least. The rust had taken hold by now though, and it was only ever going to end one way. Opposite is the DVLA report. Scrapped I'm afraid - will any of our old cars survive?
